ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Fred Petereit was born in Chicago and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Petereit was very influenced by impressionist painters and German expressionism, remaining in the field of figurative painting. In Paris he lived in Rue Lepic, in Montmartre, where the streets and houses still remained as they had been painted by Maurice Utrillo.
Despite being full of practical problems, Fred remained enthusiastic. In art, for him the essential thing beyond form was above all the tones and transparencies. He appreciated Modigliani, Roualt and the symbolists: he was looking for delicate and precious harmonies that came from his soul and from the lights of his world.
1946-49: studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.
1949-51: studied at the Julian Academy in Paris.
1951-53: moved to Morocco and held individual and group exhibitions in Casablanca.
1953-55: moved to Spain and held individual exhibition in Cordoba.
1956: settled in Paris, four solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions. His works appear in numerous collections in the United States.
1960 – moves to Venice where he spent the rest of his life.
