SOLD PAUL SIEFFERT ( 1874 – 1957 ) Oil on canvas
The painting is a delicate back view of a beautiful woman, lying on a light fur rug, in front of a faun wall. The woman draws her legs and back forward and rests her head on her arm. Sieffert was a figure and nude painter who learned painting in the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). His paintings are characterised by their delicate colour palette, precise depiction of anatomy, and the uniformity of his subjects. He became a prolific nude painter in his later years. Numbered his works. I believe the similar painting that sold in 2024 was pastel under glass number 180. Ours is Oil on canvas number 736.
Portrait and nude painter, student of Gérôme. He received the Rome Prize in 1902. Paintings by him are in several important collections and public museums. (14014815) (19)
